At the end of the day, my outfit really came together for the 70’s event, but would you believe me if I said I really struggled to find something to wear? It’s true; I went through about two-thirds of the mall before I found something I liked, and even then I pitter-pattered around the store for about 30 more minutes feeling unsure about it. For today, I thought I would go through my thought process in choosing my outfit for the event and how I got really lucky at the end of the day.

My Thoughts on Beach Read by Emily Henry

Before this book, I had fallen into a rabbit hole of nonfiction books and autobiographies. It’s not that I wasn’t happy there, because it was a path I had chosen to go down because that is what I write. I think that there is a different feeling I get when I read something meant to be inspirational, or something coming from someone who is successful and has overcome adversity. I was missing the feeling of reading happy endings. Maybe it comes from the little kid in me who loved fairy tales, but I love a happily ever after story. I didn’t realize that what I was longing for is the feeling of reading a romantic comedy, until I picked up this book. The driving force behind me reading Beach Read by Emily Henry came from the fact that my former Her Campus Editor Nicole posted it on her Bookstagram. She said it was one of her favorite books of all time, ever. Which sounded like a glowing review, so I picked it up, and I absolutely love it. So for today’s blog post, I thought I would go through the discussion questions in the back of the book. To this day, I’m very guarded about when I really laugh. If I’m in public, or with people I whose opinion I value, I will typically smile at the things that I find funny, or if everyone around me is laughing, I’ll let out a very controlled “ha-ha” so that I don’t stand out too much. With how forced the latter sounds, I’m surprised that it doesn’t draw more attention to me. It doesn’t feel natural.

Today is a great day, not because it’s a Monday, but because today is International Women’s Day. Growing up the oldest of four girls, it took me a little bit of time before I realized that we didn’t need to compete with each other. There was a time when I would get jealous, but I’ve realized that there’s enough going on in society and that there’s space for every woman. When I embraced this idea, my life became richer for it, and I have an amazing set of women in my life who remind me of my value in the world and I champion. In addition to telling the women in my life that I love them, I wanted to highlight some advice that some amazing women have given to other women in this blog post today.

My Valentine’s Day Weekend Surprise

We were in bed watching Tayshia’s season of The Bachelorette together. It was one of the few times my boyfriend was going to endure watching terrible television with me. She was on her one-on-one date with Brendan, and they were riding around LaQuinta on horseback. In that moment, I said, “You know, when I was in seventh grade, I asked my parents for horseback riding lessons for my birthday. My dad said yes, but my mom said no because she thought that it was something that boys do and thought that I would get hurt.” I think that’s where he got the idea for my surprise Valentine’s Day date.
