The Weekend That Weakened Me

I feel like no one ever plans to get sick, but getting sick this past weekend put a damper on my spirit. Why? Because I was in a city that has always been on my bucketlist. It’s the country music capital, Nashville, Tennessee, baby. While I didn’t really go out to any honky-tonks, I was very happy to be able to take in the energy of the city in my short time there.

I have a love for food halls, and I especially loved the atmosphere of this one. Live music, outdoor seating, and so many options. I got to have sushi and then Hawaiian shaved ice, and all of it was so good. This would be a place I would want to have to go to again if I ever came back.

A Floral Date on a Friday

Since I woke up kind of sniffly, I stayed in for most of the day and read a lot. One of my favorite things about Nashville was that I got to enjoy some chilly weather, so every morning I would start the day by opening up the balcony door. With the temperature in the high fifties and mid-sixties, I was happy to make a cup of tea everyday and sit by the balcony with my assigned reading.

In the evening, when my boyfriend got off of work, we decided that it would be a date night. And because I kept telling Asanti about how Nashville has always been on my bucket list, he was letting me make all the decisions. Then in true Asanti fashion, when I said I wanted to go to the Opryland Botanical Gardens, he looked it up and said, “Why do you want to visit a Gaylord Resort? They’re everywhere.”

Then we got there, and he was like, “This is amazing.” Because it was. We walked around a bit, and decided to get dinner before we exhausted ourselves. Asanti said he had one of the best rib-eye steaks he’s ever had, and we went on a little boat ride to see all the plants. It was precious, because the place was already decorated for Halloween. There were even kids in costumes running around, and it made me feel like we were in an Alice in Wonderland garden party. It was such an amazing night.

None of the pictures that I took compare to how beautiful and magical this place is. This little corner looks nice, but it looked amazing in person. All the lights seemed to twinkle, and I kind of wanted to dance with my boyfriend in the garden even though I can't dance.

A Sickly Saturday

Another day of opening up the balcony door, and another day of being sick in a city where I just wanted to explore. It was a little worse than the day before, so I let myself sleep a little, and I did some homework too. Again, I waited until Asanti got off of work before actually going out to explore.

He invited his coworkers, and we went out to a BBQ joint that had live country music. It was everything that I wanted from a night out, and of course the night ended with us going for ice cream. Since Asanti had an early call time for the morning, we had the perfect excuse to leave early. And it was nice to just enjoy time with the two of us.

It was so cool to experience live country music. After our dinner, Asanti said that he understood why people enjoyed live country music and said that he would hire James Carothers for our wedding. I was the one that said I had to think about it, but it really is an experience everyone should try once.

Sending Me Off Sick on a Sunday

It seemed like I progressively was getting worse, so my last day in Nashville was spent staying in. I ordered breakfast and then packed before taking a nap. Then I woke up and read some before heading to the airport.

The worst part about returning home was that I ended up waiting at the airport for an hour and a half. Flying in late on a Sunday, I guess Uber and Lyft collectively don’t have a lot of drivers at that time, so I tried booking 3 normal rides on each, and no one picked me up. But within requesting an upgrade, I had a ride home within 10 minutes. So that was how I ended my weekend, sick and tired at the airport past midnight.

Have you been to Nashville? Are you a fan of country music? What is a bucket-list place that you want to visit one day? I would love to know in the comments below!
