My Very Nice Weekend

It seemed like a much-deserved holiday weekend for me, because I have been laboring my days away since the week before school started. But now I’m back, and while I also spent the weekend doing homework, I also had some fun. Of course, hard work is important, because I don’t live to work, I’m working to live. So enjoy reading about what I worked for this past weekend.

A few weeks ago, I was offended when my boyfriend tried to imply that I was a housewife. After this weekend, I could see it. I give off a lot of housewife energy, the normal, everyday kind.

Fun Friday

Originally, I was going to go home to work, but it ended up not working out, so I stayed in town, which is why I ended up having a better weekend. After days of only having four hours of sleep for three days straight, my sleep schedule was a bit messed up. I slept in on this day then, and I hoped that it would level out the rest of my sleep schedule.

I woke up, made myself a late brunch, and then committed myself to doing some reading and homework until the evening. If I had gone to work, I would have missed out on trivia night, so I’m glad that I got the opportunity to meet a friend. Maybe it’s nerdy of me to admit that I love game nights and trivia nights, but I genuinely love them. I might get a little bit too competitive though.

So my team won at trivia, but that honestly had nothing to do with me, because I ended up only knowing about five percent of the questions. It made me a little sad that I didn’t contribute as much as I would’ve liked, but I’m happy that we won.

The prize was a blind date with a book, and I would like to say that my intuition is very good when it comes to dating. At least, that’s how I feel, because the book I picked ended up being one of my favorite books that I already have. That’s okay, because I haven’t read it in a while, and I don’t have this cover of this book. I don’t even know if I have time to read anything new at this point…

After winning at trivia, my team and I got to pick out prizes. I'm so good at dating, that I ended up picking out my favorite book, the City of Bones by Cassandra Clare. I also got to make that cute bookmark.

Sweaty Saturday

I continued to catch up on my sleep today, and then I woke up and read a little bit. I couldn’t read for long though, because I had to run to the store to buy some things. What things? Things to prepare for a potluck for the evening.

For a back to school event, this year the MFA program was hosting a potluck at the Jack Kerouac House to welcome everyone back to school. All week, I had been going back and forth about what to bring, and I finally decided when I woke up that I would make fried rice. I might have overestimated, because I ended up making a gallon’s worth. The reason the headline reads “sweaty” is because I also overestimated how much clothing to wear, and my back was like that of a dolphin (points if you know what I’m referencing).

Aside from getting to know the faculty and staff a bit better, the other cool thing about this event was that I got to see a historical house where American novelist and poet, Jack Kerouac, once lived in when he was working on his writing in Orlando. It was a small and humble home that has been historically preserved, and continues to host writers in the house for residencies. While that sounds cool, there is a part of me that worries about whether or not Kerouac might be haunting this house. The last thing I want is a ghost to amplify my writing insecurities…

residence because someone is living there at the moment, so I took a photo out front before I left. This is the plaque that sits in front of the house to share the historical significance to anyone just passing by.

Slow Sunday

This Sunday was an exciting one for me, because my boyfriend went away for a whole week, so I was just spending the day waiting for him to come back. In that waiting, I feel like I truly ended up encapsulating a housewife, which I got a little offended by when he tried to imply that I was halfway there. Thinking on it though, he is right, because I spent the day cleaning house so that he could be comfortable when he came home. I also made sure there was food, because I love food and being in the kitchen.

Anyway, his flight ended up being delayed for several hours, but it worked out, because I just did homework in that time while I waited.

What did you do during the weekend? How do you feel about dating now that cuffing season is here? Are you excited about the start of fall? I would love to know in the comments below!
