Why I Started Blogging

May is finally here, and I am quite relieved to say the least. April manages to be a rough month for me. It’s probably from the combination of studying for finals, completing final projects, and a severe deprivation of sleep. The result is that my mood usually picks up significantly on May 1st, probably because I can breathe and I’ve gotten a little more sleep.

Anyway, in trying to find some positivity in the face of everything else, I’m going to try and challenge myself to blog for the next 15 days. It gives me the opportunity to write, which I love. And while fifteen is an odd number to choose, I chose it because it’ll be my birthday at the end of it. Since we’re stuck in quarantine, I couldn’t think of a better way to count it down.

To start off, I wanted to start with a post detailing why I even started doing this. There are so many blogs in the world, so what made me think I should start one of my own? Keep reading if you want to find out more.

According to this article by The Atlantic, the word blog was developed by fusing the words web and log together. The web is the medium that shares the content, and a log provides an accurate account happening in real time. The reason I started this blog was so that I could do what I love, without having to wait for someone’s permission.

I’ve shared before that I developed a love of reading at a young age, and my love of writing followed not too far behind. If I had to give it a ballpark, I would say I’ve loved writing since I got into middle school. It became a solace while I was in high school, and I wish that I could do it more now that I’m in college.

In all that time, I’ve heard time and time again about how hard it is to get published in the industry. The importance of a social media presence also rose during this time, and the number of people who put “Influencer” on their resume started to sky rocket. The honest truth is that this is not easy. It’s a competitive place to be, and there is content being pushed out by all walks of life every minute of everyday. It’s not easy to grow a readership. While I don’t think I could really influence anyone, I do hope that from reading my blog, people will pursue their passions and share that with me as well. I’m doing this because writing is my passion, and this is my way of sharing it with the world.

I’m blogging because I believe that it’s going to help me grow, as a writer and a person. In my short writing career, I’ve often heard that every writer writes 99 bad things before writing 1 good thing. This blog gives me a place to test that statistic. Here I’m writing about things I love and experiences that I’ve had, and I’m also looking to grow everyday. To me, that means I’m learning and improving myself everyday. What endures is the human brand. This blog is my way of developing my personal brand and sharing who I am.

To wrap it up, I’m going to leave this quote by William Wordsworth that basically sums everything up:

"Fill your paper with the breathings of your heart." -William Wordsworth
“Fill your paper with the breathings of your heart.” -William Wordsworth

Out of all of my blog posts, which one is your favorite? Do you remember which post brought you to my site? What would you like to see more of?

Thank you so much for taking the time to read my blog today. I’ve challenged myself to blog for the next 15 days, so make sure to check back tomorrow for something new. If you like what you read, feel free to like, share, and and please subscribe to the blog. It would mean the world to me if I can continue to share my life with you.

Love Always,

Kristi My
