Hello!
So. I’ve fallen in love, and we’re moving in together. He’s the cutest thing in the world, and we both connected over our love of food. His name is Damian, and he is a little Malshi puppy.
Yes, after 15 years of trying to convince my parents that I deserve a puppy, they finally said yes (so long as I took care of him in every way). That means appointments, grooming, feeding, finances, the list goes on forever. It’s like having a baby, without going through the birthing process.
But it’s all worth it, because I have a boy in my life who will love me no matter what I do. Every time I’m home, he runs right up to me, and he’s so excited to see me that he’s jumping up my legs (which currently hurts because his claws need to be trimmed). He doesn’t like to be alone, but at the same time if he has a bone, he will growl if you try to go near him because he needs space too.
He’s a great companion, and he makes me feel needed. And that feeling of being needed is something that I really need in my life. I’m fortunate to have it, but that does not mean that this puppy comes without responsibilities.
He’s Teething
I don’t know how it is with regular babies, but Baby Damian is 12 weeks old and teething. He bites EVERYTHING. The furniture, the wall, our toes as we walk about. And I didn’t expect it until he nipped at the flab that is supposed to be my arm muscle, but puppy teeth are really sharp.
He Needs To Be Housebroken…
Damian pees and poops everywhere. And he’s teething, so he’s biting EVERYTHING from shoes to the white walls. It’s gotten better since we have all the pee pads, along with the crate, and we take him out. But it’s still a problem, because he has yet to get the idea.
…But Also, His Puppy Cries
He has real separation anxiety, or so it seems. We put him in the crate, cover the crate with a blanket, and the whimpers break my heart all the time. I can even sometimes hear him when I leave through the garage door. I guess that’s the string attached to unconditional love, though. It doesn’t make it hurt any less.
All In All, Though…
Having a pet could be rough, and yes, there’s hard work to it, but if you’re anything like me, it’s worth it. I am so close to my family, but none of them show their excitement to have me home the way my puppy does; he runs up to the door, smiling and panting, ready to jump into my lap the second that I crouch down to pick him up. It makes me feel wanted like nothing else.
Once upon a time, there was a girl who had everything that she wanted except for unconditional love. And then she met Damian, who was the key to her happily ever after.
Love Always,
Kristi My♥
