5 Artists I Added to My Perfect Autumn Playlist

I recently got to enjoy a vacation in Denver, Colorado with hopes of experiencing more of the fall season. Even though I didn’t really get to experience the crisp autumn air or the beginning of the leaves changing color, I still got the opportunity to feel the distinct vibe of fall while away on my vacation. It ended up being everything I wanted and needed, probably because I had the perfect playlist going.

The music that I played while in Denver played a key role in shaping my experience. This list is to commemorate the artists that contributed to cultivating the perfect fall vibes that I wanted while on vacation. Hopefully they add something to your fall rotation too.

1. Hozier

Hozier isn’t an artist that I find myself listening to often, but I have found that he belongs at the top of this list because of the intricate harmonies and the warm tones that I have discovered with his music. When listening in the midst of nature, I found that his music either energized me with life or soothed my soul as I absorbed the Denver air.

Here are a few Hozier songs I found myself drawn to this season:

  1. “Too Sweet” by Hozier
  2. “Jackie and Wilson” by Hozier
  3. “I, Carrion (Icarian)” by Hozier
  4. “Cherry Wine” by Hozier
  5. “Say My Name (Spotify Cover)” by Hozier

2. Zach Bryan

If you’re looking for the perfect song to pair with a scenic drive through colorful landscape as the sun is setting, Zach Bryan has a discography full of the perfect songs to choose from. From songs with gentle melodies to the ones that will scratch the autumn itch for you, his music seems to capture the organic essence of the season. His music really allows for all of the naturals sounds to come through, whether the sound is coming from his voice or his guitar.

These are the five Zach Bryan songs I found myself playing over and over again:

  1. “I Remember Everything (feat. Kacey Musgraves)” by Zach Bryan
  2. “Pink Skies” by Zach Bryan
  3. “Something in the Orange” by Zach Bryan
  4. “Spotless (feat. The Lumineers)” by Zach Bryan
  5. “Burn, Burn, Burn” by Zach Bryan

3. Noah Kahan

Maybe it’s because it’s the season of leaves dying that makes fall the ideal season for introspection and nostalgia while yearning for a deep connection around us. That is what makes Noah Kahan a perfect addition to any fall playlist: not only is his music slightly (maybe highly) depressing, but it invites introspection and nostalgia because it is so successful at creating a connection between Kahan and his listeners. His music created the perfect atmosphere for me to have in my ears as I went on long walks in nature or as I took in the sunset drinking a warm cup of tea.

Here are some songs I would recommend adding to your playlist:

  1. “Stick Season” by Noah Kahan
  2. “Dial Drunk” by Noah Kahan
  3. “You’re Gonna Go Far” by Noah Kahan
  4. “Northern Attitude” by Noah Kahan
  5. “False Confidence” by Noah Kahan

4. Carly Pearce

It felt scandalous and off-brand for me to not include at least one female artist on here; luckily, Carly Pearce recently released the perfect album to mingle with the other artists I’ve chosen. Hummingbird is an album that is fun and clever, perfect for an afternoon filled with adventure. It’s a beautiful addition to my musical rotation, which had plenty of her older music already.

Here are a few of my favorite Carly Pearce songs:

  1. “rock paper scissors” by Carly Pearce
  2. “Never Wanted To Be That Girl” by Carly Pearce, featuring Ashley McBryde
  3. “we don’t fight anymore” by Carly Pearce, featuring Chris Stapleton
  4. “Every Little Thing” by Carly Pearce
  5. “hummingbird” by Carly Pearce

5. Dermot Kennedy

There once was a time where I listened to just Dermot Kennedy music for a few months straight. I didn’t think to add him to my fall rotation until his music came through the speakers at the hotel. What Kennedy’s music does for me that it has rich soundscapes wrap around my body like a jacket and make me feel powerful.

Dermot Kennedy songs I have on repeat:

  1. “Power Over Me” by Dermot Kennedy
  2. “Giants” by Dermot Kennedy
  3. “Something to Someone” by Dermot Kennedy
  4. “Heartless (Cover)” by Dermot Kennedy
  5. “Better Days” by Dermot Kennedy
