Sabrina Carpenter is “Pushing 20” and killing the game. Before the rising star released her latest single, I got to see her kick off her Singular Act I Tour in Orlando. Now, she’s my current favorite thing.
The Music
The album is comprised of twenty-five minutes of mesmerizing music that uplifts confidence. Out of the eight songs that are on the album, none of them are about a broken-hearted girl wishing that things never would’ve ended with an ex. Everything in the album is the opposite of this. It’s written by a girl who has thrived despite everything, and she wants you to thrive with her.
Carpenter continues to show off her growth in her latest album. There are a complexity of emotions here, along with a jazz influence sprinkled throughout. She’s experimenting with different sounds, but she’s doing it in a careful way that doesn’t feel forced. The music is enticing in a way that is almost addicting.
She’s also flaunting her confidence in this album. Declarations of empowerment are laced through every lyric and song of this album, and it’s infectious. I would recommend the Singular Act I album to just about any kid, teenager, or woman.
The Concert
If you are a fan of Sabrina Carpenter on any level, I think it’s a must that you attend one of the concerts on her tour. It will make a real fan of hers.
Like many, I’ve been a fan of hers since she played the role of Maya Hart on Girl Meets World. I think she’s just as wise and down to earth as the character that she played. Being at her concert was like being a part of her inner circle. Especially when she had the crowd helping her sing “prfct.” She reminisced about how she sang songs with her fans in the past, and when she was writing this album, this was the song that she wrote for them to sing with her.
In between numbers, she really tried to connect with the fans. She tried to bring the energy up with something she called “Crazy 8’s.” Before starting each song, she would explain how they came to be. Then, even though it was the end and she had already had her encore, she came back out for one last song because the audience kept chanting her name.
Act II of her album will be dropping sometime in the coming months, and I can say that I heard “Pushing 20” before it officially dropped. She previews and teases some of her songs in her set.
After everything, I’m have a major girl crush on her, and I can’t wait to see her upcoming releases.
What do you think? Are there any other women in the industry that you think I’m missing out on? I am always looking for new music to listen to, so I would love to know who everyone else has a girl crush on.
Love Always,
Kristi My
